The Power

I had wanted to read this book for a while since seeing it all over Instagram book accounts and in various friends' houses. The Power by Naomi Alderman is brilliant and I can see it being made into a blockbuster film very shortly.

Set in current time as far as I can tell, teenage girls find that they have a 'skein' - a small electrode under their collar bone that gives them power to hurt and kill. This results in the uprising of power in countries where previously women were held as sex-slaves, a new religion is formed, men are weakened and women rise to power in all different ways.

The chapters shift to follow different characters, some of which meet throughout the book and it is told in a very clever timeline that I shall not give away due to the ending.

339 pages, small but easy-reading text and a real page turner. I read this book in a week and highly recommend it to men and women. Not one for younger teenagers due to some fruity language but my mum has put it in her school library for the sixth form students and it is proving rather popular!

Again, let me know if you have read it and what you think. Would love to get feedback and spark some discussion points with all these books.
